Ever since I can remember, I had the burning desire to know who I am and where I come from. What’s my practice and what culture do I belong to, if any?

This desire manifested into my reality through schooling by taking multiple personality and career quizzes and tests. Constantly being criticized about having a plan of what you will do with your life? What are your aspirations, your dreams for the future? I answered these questions time and time again but as time went on the questions turned into a different meaning. Not all of us aspire to work however It’s natural for your meaning, and your passions to evolve as you gain new experiences and insights about yourself. Expressing a deep introspection about identity and purpose is just a part of my life. This journey of self-discovery can often feel overwhelming, especially when faced with societal expectations and the pressure to define your future. However, I am determined to become fully me, authentically me, at 100% capacity.
On my own journey to self-discovery, I’ve come across a multitude of tools that really help me understand myself better. Not all the tools will resonate with everyone who comes across this post, but for the ones that do, I hope these connections help you get a deeper understanding of yourself just as it has done for me.
The self-discovery tools that just do it for me!
Self-discovery is a personal journey, and using various tools can help you gain insights into your identity, purpose, and desires. Here are some tools I’m still learning from and utilizing.
1. Astrology
The first one is Astrology. Astrology is the study of the movements and relative positions of a range of divinatory practices, recognized as a type of divination that involves the forecasting of earthly and human events through the observation and interpretation of fixed stars. The Sun, the Moon, and the planets.
Tip: How to Get Started
– Create Your Birth Chart: Use your date, time, and location of birth to generate a natal chart. This provides insights into your personality, strengths, and challenges. It will be harder to get an accurate chart if you do not have the time of day you were born.
From Here Explore Your Sun, Moon, and Rising Signs:
Your Sun sign represents your core self, the Moon sign reflects your emotions, and the Rising sign shows how you present yourself to the world. Start researching each zodiac sign located in your natal chart and what house it’s placed in. For example, my sun sign is Libra located in my first house. I then go into a trusted search engine maybe something like Google and type in “Libra in the first house” You will get a lot of cool information you may resonate with. Anything you do not resonate with you do not claim, however, I find these little readings to be spot on. To go deeper Study Transits and Progressions. Keep track of current planetary movements and how they interact with your natal chart. This can highlight periods of growth or challenge. You can always join Astrology Communities to engage with others interested in astrology or a professional astrologer through forums or social media to share insights and interpretations.
2. Human Design
Human Design combines elements of astrology, the I Ching, Kabbalah, and the chakra system to provide a unique blueprint of your energetic makeup.
Tips: How To Get Started
– Obtain Your Bodygraph.
Similar to astrology, input your birth data to get a Bodygraph, which shows your energy centers and types.
Each of the five energy types — Manifestor, Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, and Reflector has a specific description.
– Understand Your Type: Learn about your energy type and strategy for decision-making. This can guide you in making choices that align with your authentic self.
– Explore Authority
Your Human Design Authority is the way you are designed to make decisions. Finding out what decision-making authority is for you (e.g., Emotional, Sacral) and practicing following it in your daily life can garner such a big change.
3. Meditation & Higher Self Conversations
Meditation can help you connect with your inner self, while conversations with your higher self can provide clarity and guidance. Ask yourself questions and let your mind give you an answer. Ask yourself, what’s my favorite color? What do you want out of life? what type of partner do you want? Any question and every question you have on your mind that will help you further get to know yourself.
Tips: How To Get Started
– Establish a Regular Practice: Set aside time daily for meditation, starting with just a few minutes and gradually increasing as you become more comfortable.
– Use Guided Meditations: Consider using apps or online resources for guided meditations focused on self-discovery, self-love, or connecting with your higher self.
– Journaling After Meditation: Write down any insights, feelings, or messages received during your meditation to help reflect on your journey.
– Visualize Conversations: During meditation, visualize a conversation with your higher self, asking questions about your path, desires, or challenges.
Meditating and talking to yourself does not make you crazy. It makes you insightful. Who knows better than yourself right? What is self-love without self-acceptance and or self-realization? There’s also no right or wrong way to meditate. There are multiple ways to meditate, you can do a meditation where you quiet your mind and let your thoughts flow. You can do a meditation when you visualize your higher self and what type of life he or she will be living. You can meditate by mentally promoting positive self conversation giving yourself praises and letting yourself know that you are amazing. There are plenty more differentiations of this practice, just do your research but always know that you are not doing it wrong. When I first started out meditating I always told my clients especially mothers “Who wouldn’t want to sit and peace and quiet all by themselves” I know I would, so that is what I did. Ever since then, I’ve seen a big improvement in my emotional regulation. So that’s how I started meditating going somewhere quiet and dark (my preferred method) and just literally sitting in peace and quiet. In the (stillness) consuming the gratitude from each experience always made me more refreshed, calm, and ready to take on my day. This practice also provided me with valuable insights through reflections and realizations or some people call them downloads.
