The topic of becoming your best self is a topic that’s dear to me! Mainly because it’s a question I’ve been asking myself for a very long time. In this blog entry, I will be discussing the tips and tricks I find useful to answer this very question!
1. Self-Awareness
The main goal of self-awareness is self reflection!
Self-reflection is the process of examining and evaluating one’s thoughts, feelings, actions, and experiences. It involves taking a step back from daily life to consider personal beliefs, motivations, and behaviors.
This is to gain deeper insight into oneself. This will help you understand your values, strengths, weaknesses, and patterns of behavior. Self-reflection can be done through various methods, such as journaling, meditation, or simply taking quiet time to think. It often involves asking oneself questions like:
-What does your best self look like?
-How do you dress/ smell?
– What are your passions, interests and purpose?
– How can I learn from my experiences?
Having the time to do introspection is very important! Knowing the importance and understanding oneself, including strengths, weaknesses, values, and beliefs will be a great start on the journey of becoming your best self!
2. Intentions
Having a physical model for inspiration in a plan will set you up for success in becoming your best self! You would do this by highlighting the significance of setting realistic and achievable goals for yourself. Taking the introspection that you learn of yourself from step one and connecting those aspects with SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound)
Will give you a clear picture/set up on this process!
For example, my best self is classy and fashionable. So in this case, I will search for fashionable styles and or statement pieces that I would like to get into my wardrobe. I would write down the goal in my journal or on a separate piece of paper with statement pieces to follow. Becoming intentional about everything I spend money on as well as having a pinkprint on my wardrobe makes it as easy as ever to achieve the goal!
3. Discipline
Once steps one and two are complete it is important to stay disciplined and the criteria that you set for your new self! With setting your intention, the introspection and plans should’ve been created. This gives you no excuse to waiver or be confused on how your day to day should be going. With discipline I also would like you to focus on Building Resilience and the importance of resilience and how to cultivate it. Emphasizing the role of mindfulness and mental wellness in personal development. When feeling defeated
Include techniques like meditation, journaling, and stress management to overcome setbacks and maintain motivation.
4. Consistency
This journey will not be an easy one. It may be the hardest thing that you ever do, becoming selfish with the trajectory of your life! However , I do advise you to take every day one moment at a time! You will make mistakes! You may do really good one day and then bad the next but what’s most important is that you have more good days than bad days! Take this process one day at a time! One hour at a time if you need it to be so. Try your best to be as consistent as possible to encourage more good days than bad ones yielding better results !
5. Reflection and Adaptation
Always know that it is a MUST to review and revise your intentions, even self-awareness! It’s normal for your goals to change! You won’t stay the same throughout your whole lifetime so taking the time to regularly reflect on progress and being willing to adapt goals and strategies as needed.
6. Self-Compassion
Remember to be kind to yourself and practice self-compassion. Forgiving oneself for past mistakes and allowing oneself grace is a crucial aspect of personal growth and emotional well-being.
Holding onto guilt or shame can create emotional burdens that weigh heavily on an individual. Forgiving oneself allows for the release of these negative feelings, leading to greater emotional clarity and peace. Acknowledging mistakes and allowing oneself grace provides a sense of acceptance, enabling you to move forward and focus on personal development rather than dwelling on the past.
Always know that mistakes are often valuable learning opportunities. By understanding this aspect individuals can reflect on what went wrong, extract lessons from the experience, and apply those lessons to future situations, promoting personal growth.Embracing self-forgiveness can help individuals develop a more positive self-image. It allows you to see yourself as capable of change and inner
growth rather than as defined by their past mistakes.
