When I was a little girl I would go visit my uncle
Uncle Gene , in his small Detroit apartment
I don’t remember much
But what I do remember is that he loved trolls, but that’s not what this is about
This is about a small toy box
One that looked like a small shipping crate
And when the box was on the box would shake
The “man” inside the box would yell
Let Me Out Of Here! Hey! Help me please, Let Me Out!
You never saw the man , just heard his voice
I never actually believed there was a tiny man trapped inside the box
But I do still think about it til this day and wonder its connection to my interest now
I asks the same questions I had back then
How tragic would it be to be stuck in a box?
What was the reason for its existence?
Where did the thought come from?
Who thought this was amusing?
Why was the man trapped?
None never to be answered
But my love for black mirror and my connection back has me wondering about consciousness.
How there are episodes that talked about transferred consciousness
How one can be transferred into something such as mundane as a box and how scary that reality was.
Did the same brain who thought of the toy box also think in terms of Black Mirror?
And why was I able to feel its pain.
Understand it in a weird way
A early sign of empathy?!
A piece stuck with me.
