A Day In September

It is 1:42 am on September 10, 2026. At 11:30am my event starts. A journal release party. My piece, “Flower Box,” was accepted for publication in the inaugural issue of the SMCC Literary Journal. I am very honored and excited to have my work published especially since it’s been a goal of mine to pivot careers. To follow my calling, my dreams. A published and respected writer/author.

So why do I feel defeated? Unamused? Maybe it is the energy, the life around me. I mean I have been struggling and stressed out. Fighting my urge to engage in the typical distractions that we are all used to. Drowning out my hidden pains with ganja and vanilla cokes with sweet cream. Can life get any better? It must because dare I say I feel depressed. 11 months postpartum and my first event back into my life, my purpose soured by my attitude and anxiety. I repainted my toes. They are white per usual but that’s not preparing me to be presentable because my toes will be covered by my black pointy kitten heels. Just another distraction disguise by minimum effort to actual networking and preparations. I’m not new to this, I’m true to this, you’ll never know what information you’re rooming with .
